Parasites Exist In Children Around The World

Parasites, including the whipworm are alive and well in children and adults around the world, especially in developing nations that have poor sanitation systems. Infestation is primarily spread by the oral-fecal route, the eggs must be swallowed. The eggs hatch once inside the human host. Global travel exposes many to these life robbing human organisms. A stool exam in which the egg and parasite count is observed can help determine the degree of parasitic infestation one has.

The Trichuris trichiura is a nematode and is also called the human whipworm. The worm got its name from its whip like shape. It is the third most common worm in humans. To see live video of the human roundworm and tapeworm inside the intestines and to read further parasitology information, please click here.

Whipworm occurs worldwide, with infections more frequent in areas with tropical and subtropical weather and poor human waste disposal practices, and among children. The parasitic infection of the whipworm has been reported to be as high as 90% in some locales. More than 700 million people are infected with the whipworm globally. Though more rare, the whipworm does occur in the southern United States.

The adult male whipworm is 30-45 mm, and the female is 35-50 mm. The time from ingestion of the eggs to developing into mature worms, is about 3 months. Female adult worms can lay thousands of eggs per day for up to 5 years. The eggs are passed out of the human host with their fecal waste. The whipworm's do not actually reproduce inside the human host. They must have each been swallowed in its egg form.

WARNING

Following is a colonoscopic view of a 12-year-old girl's colon that has been taken over by thousands of whipworms, Trichuris trichiura, that have embedded themselves in the colon wall. This video of living whipworms is rather unsettling.

I know, this infested colon video was a bit much for me to confront too.

Human Worms Exist In USA

This parasitology knowledge is so important, because there are far too many people that do not suspect internal worms can be reeking havoc with their bodies and health. Most people in more developed countries have very little, if any education, in this critically important infectious disease area. Though, there are definitely more human worm infestations in less developed nations, human worms are inhabiting the human host all over the world. Plus, they are being largely undiagnosed.

Human worms are not just reserved for "someone else." In fact, my close friend passed a thirteen inch worm in the United States of America, while doing the DrNatura Colonix colon cleanse program. Another friend of mine is a colon hydrotherapist. During colon hydrotherapy sessions, released excrement passes through a glass tube. My friend witnessed many masses of bulbous intertwined worms pass through that tube from several of her clients. Better out than in...

Whipworm Symptoms

Most whipworm infestations are asymptomatic - no apparent symptoms. However, heavy worm inhabitation can cause anemia, pain, diarrhea and hemorrhaging from mucosa damage.

The adult whipworm buries its thin anterior head and part of its body into the intestinal mucosa (epithelial tissue) and feeds on tissue secretions and blood cells. These particular worms reside in the pouchy like cecum which is located at the beginning of the large intestine (ascending colon).

These gross whipworms do suck blood, resulting in tiny blood loss, but not as much as the hookworm. When the whipworm buries it's head in the intestinal wall, this causes a tremendous inflammatory reaction and can bring about colitis. The inflamed intestinal wall gets red, eroded and prone to invasion by bacteria.

Some believe this human worm induced inflammation is the underlying cause of intermittent diarrhea. Sometimes the diarrhea is treated, only to come back later if the whipworms are still there. The damage to the intestinal wall thus continues, allowing continual bacterial infection to invade the intestine and causing more intestinal diarrhea. Some severe cases with high parasitic infestation experience bloody stools (hematochezia).

This childhood parasite endemic greatly concerns pediatric infectious disease specialists. Parasitic medical research shows children with worm infestations have higher cases of anemia, higher cases of stunted growth and display lower cognitive function.

Good Hygiene Helps Reduce Parasite And
Worm Infection Or Reinfection

Poor hygiene is associated with whipworm transmission, and children are especially vulnerable because of their high exposure risk. Good hygiene basics such as proper disposal of body wastes, avoiding of finger sucking, attention to good sanitation, wearing shoes where the soil is fecally contaminated (as some worms can penetrate the intact skin in the bare feet), will best prevent this infestation from occurring or reoccurring. Also, decrease your chance of getting worms by such simple measures as washing your produce thoroughly, washing your hands well (also under the fingernails) before preparing or eating food, after changing a diaper and after using the toilet.

Food handling workers around the globe must thoroughly wash their hands. Finally, learn how to safely and naturally purge these unwanted life sucking inhabitants from your body.

What Causes This
Parasite Epidemic?

Are there some causative factors involved for the worm infections to be affecting so much of our global population - about a quarter of the world population. Could it be genetics? Could it be some form of malnutrition? Are the children's immune systems compromised? Are the exposure rates much higher where latrines are not commonly available and thus more fecal contamination exists?

It is quite a daunting task for the researchers to determine all of the causative factors of this parasite epidemic that is especially quite rampant in the developing countries. Luckily, research studies show that through health education and better sanitation practices such as improved facilities for feces disposal, the incidence of whipworm has decreased. Yes, infection and reinfection can dramatically be decreased. So that is definitely a place to start.

In many of these developing countries, various medicines are being used to deworm the children. Chemotherapy is even being used to treat these children with high cases of various worms. However, scientists and doctors are concerned not only with the high costs of these medicines, but also with their toxicity and the fact that these human worms are growing immune to these different medicines that are being used.

Nutritional Needs Of The Children Must Be Met

Nutritional needs certainly must be addressed. When the body's immune system is stronger because of consuming better nutrition, the human body becomes far more capable of dispelling unwanted guests and fighting off disease.

A wonderful nutrition book to have on hand is called Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats. Here is my Nourishing Traditions review. The author is top nutritional researcher Sally Fallon, and world leading lipid researcher Mary G. Enig, Ph.D. The authors are spot on as to the significance of good nutrition being critical to our overall health.

They really zero in on the importance of consuming live enzyme and friendly bacteria rich foods which promote proper intestinal health. This living friendly bacteria rich intestinal environment will not only enhance digestion and one's immune system, but it will help keep these unwanted nutrition robbing critters at bay.

Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats is a book that everyone should own, especially mothers that are looking to learn how to improve their health prior to conception, and also how to optimally nourish their growing babies and family.

If you doubt good traditional nutrition and essential enzymes from raw foods are critical to one's health and their offspring, please view the astonishing Dr. Weston Price nutritional video on my homepage.
