Spring Raw Milk Tastes The Best
Cow Eating Grass Produces Excellent Raw Milk
Well, it is probably difficult for most to taste a variety of raw milks from different dairies. I like to note that our fresh raw milk flavor varies greatly throughout the year.
I live in Virginia, and I get Guernsey raw milk from an Amish farmer in Pennsylvania through a buyer's club.
I think the best tasting milk is in spring during delivery and after a sunny week. The cows get sunshine and eat a lot of green grass.
The cream in the top fourth of the raw milk is a beige, and the bottom 3/4 of the fresh milk is a very light yellow-green - I kid you not. When we see that, we know it was a sunny week.
That is the most interesting tasting raw milk with lots of flavors. Today's delivery was pretty good, but I am looking forward to next Wednesday's delivery.
When I visit California (Bay Area), I usually pick up Claravale dairy milk from Whole Foods. It's pretty high quality. I never drank Organic Pastures milk. I heard they have a mix of Jersey and Holstein cows. It is more expensive.
What's up with California - legal retail sales of raw milk, yet only 2 dairies serving this entire large state of Virginia? One would think there should be over a dozen farms throughout the state providing raw milk.
