What Should I Do With Liquid After Soaking My Grains For Homemade Bread?

by Laura
(NW Arkansas)

This is my first time soaking grains, and only my second time making homemade bread.

Okay, I started soaking my grains last night, as the recipe instructed, and this morning I have quite a bit of liquid on top. It is more than what you have in your picture. Is this a problem or does it just vary?

Thanks for any help you can be. Thanks too for the wonderful step-by-step instructions. What a great resource.

Laura

Feel Free To Throw Out Excess Grain Soaking Fluid
by: Eryn

After the grains have been soaked, you'll notice there is some left over soaking solution. That would be made up of your acidic medium and your water.

You may absolutely throw that excess soaking solution out. I do. You do not have to use it for your bread recipe.

You do not need the excess acidic medium anymore. The vinegar and water solution has already helped to pre-digest your grains and reduce that phytic acid.

After you have thrown out the excess soaking liquid, just add your remaining ingredients and then bake your bread.

Let's say after you put in your remaining ingredients you find your dough is just a tad bit too dry, and you think well maybe this dough would not be so dry if you would have used the excess soaking fluid. Well no problem, just add in a tiny bit more of fresh water to get your dough consistency just right.

Hope that helps. How lucky you will be having homemade bread for the holidays!

Feel free to send me a picture of your homemade bread creation.

Good luck Laura,

Eryn
